Jacques Richard said… Hi Mike! I have a blocked nasal passages often and all i do is to force my circular breathing until my nose clear up take about a few minutes, even sometime I wake up with block nasal and i just force myself to play the didgeridoo and it clear up every time. With the nasal spray ounce you start your nose seem to need it all the time after your nose become lazy hihihihi!!
Mike Scott said… Hi Norayne, nice to hear from you. it's going really well thank you, I'm managing to practice every day (even if it's only for five or ten minutes), I've got one problem though and I believe it's a problem you had when you started judging by one of your comments, that of having difficulty with blocked nasal passages making circular breathing difficult.
I've tried various nasal sprays, my Doctor prescribed me a steroid one but the best relieve so far is to suck an Extra Strong Mint before/during practicing.
but enough about me, how is your playing now? You're rather fortunate to belong to a club, how's that doing?

I don't know why I wasn't seeing the entire comment post previously. I haven't thought about the video diary. The diary is a good idea, but it's not a big deal to me right now. I don't know of a serious didge player even in Texas, so I'm pretty much learning everything online right now. I've had experience with playing cornet early in grade school (though I stuck with drums and played bass guitar for a while) and sang choir in my senior year in high school, so I understand how important embouchure is as well as developing lung capacity and proper playing. It'll be a while before I get the hang of it, though.
Today, I practiced my embouchure without the didge (cheeks in) and I was able to breathe outward without breaking the embouchure, on a single breath, for at most near 40 seconds. Getting my cheap Toca Percussion didge going with a soft drone cut that down to about 15-18 seconds on a single breath. I have to work on evenness of the drone. And I have to work on the didge itself if I want to work on the cheeks out embouchure.
Sometimes, I can get circular breathing away from the didge going when the coordination is just right. I can do barks and hum more or less in tune with the drone. It would be interesting to bend my hum a few cents away from my drone note (C). I've played around with the vowels.
but right now, I shouldn't even be thinking about that. Cheeks out and in drones are all I should be thinking about. Nice to meet you and thank you for the welcome! Let me get a thread started here!
Mike Scott said… thanks for the 'add' Norayne.
Mike Scott said… Hi Norayne, thanks for that info, i don't think I'll be able to make it to that one though but I am planning on going to the 'Singing Sticks' in July.
I've just quickly checked out a few of your posts and you give out some great advice, may I add you as a 'friend' ?
regards, mike
