"Hi Rowena, I am fairly new to didgeridoo building as well, in my relatively short experience I have built 4 agave didgeridoos and one out of eucalyptus. My first one did not turn out quite as I wanted as well, it was playable but the sound was a…"

"Hello Rowena, firstly congratulations on your fist self made instrument. The fact that it did not quite turn out the way you were perhaps expecting will not, so I hope, stop you from having another attempt. It is sooooo rewarding when everything…"

I just finished my beech didge.  It turned out well and I was happy with my first attempt.  I used the split and hollow method and clamped it back together.  I left it out to dry overnight and when I came back home this evening, I unclamped it and began sanding to make the edges flush.  I warmed some beeswax and made a mouthpiece pretty easily.  I sat down to play it for the first time and...nothing.  I sat for about twenty minutes before I could get a sound out of it.  When I did, I realized…See More

"I use west systems epoxy to glue them back together....you can also use it to seal the whole didge. Tung oil should work just fine...although if you want to stay more organic, beeswax with a little under 10% carnuba wax mixed in works well to keep…"

Hi all,I'm attempting my first hardwood didge.  I have a piece of beech, aged for over a year.  I've split it apart and have already hollowed out one side and I just started on the second half last night (I'm using hand chisels).  I was thinking about the next steps in the process and I realized that I didn't know about how to seal it.  My main question is:  does anyone have experience with Tung or Teak oil?  I've used both on carpentry projects in the past, they are easy to use and produce a…See More

1999
Language(s)

About me
I have an eclectic taste in music and travel which led to me discovering the didge. Since then I've been playing it with varying regularity. I've just started making attempts at making my own didges. Yucca was a failure (which is rare to find in the Houston area), but I am currently working on a Beech wood didge (sun dried wood aged for about 1 1/2 years)
Influences
I listen to almost all music.
