2005
About my band

Wunakina is a young band from Germany. Our music is a mixture of World Music, Blues/Jazz and Celtic Folk Music!

"Wunakina" is a word from the language of the Yolngu people in Arnhemland / Northern Territory of Australia. The meaning of "Wunakina" is fire!

Members of Wunakina:

Max (born in 1997)
harmonica (2007), piano (2008), djembé (2003), vocals (2008) & various percussions/drums

Philipp (born in 1991)
didgeridoo (2005), djembé (2003), danmoi / jaw harp (2006), congas & bongos (2007), cajon (2008), vocals (2008) & various percussions/drums

Band biography

The reason to make music was a didge'n'drum festival in the visitors mine that is leaded by our dad (www.schneckenstein.de) in 2003. We were 6 and 12 years old. We loved the sound of didgeridoos and drums and so we began with African drumming - a friend teached us the djembé basics. After a short time he moved away and we had to continue learning on our owns. In 2005 I began playing the didgeridoo - the reason was the opening festival of our dad's international mineral center with didgeridoo players. I never had a didgeridoo teacher! In 2007, Max started with harmonica .. he's really talented. We combined bluesharp (harmonica) and didgeridoo and our music became interesting & diversified. During the winter in 2008, Max began playing piano and I built a cajon. The cajon completed the typical sound of Wunakina ;) Then we had a guest musician from Edinburgh / Scotland who loved Celtic folk in 2008 for 3 months - and he "infected" us. Since 2008 we play - in addition to blues/jazz and world music - Irish & Scottish folk music! In december 2008, we started singing to some Celtic songs.

We already played together with:
- LD Miller & The Clayton Miller Band (Blues/Rock) from Lafayette, IN (USA)
- Hootin' the Blues (Country/Blues) from Münster (Germany)
- Caledonix (Scottish Folk Music) from Stuttgart (Germany)
- The Cobblestones (Irish Folk Music) from Berlin (Germany)
... and we had been the support band of the well-known German band "Die Prinzen" ;-)

WDN Compilation CD

Hi mates,

I've sent an email to each member about my new idea: I want to create a compilation CD with music of many WDN members from all over the planet!

Many members asked me now about the costs, if they still have their performance rights, ... That's why I'll tell you something about the project.

I made contact with Michael Nasswetter, the boss of the new music label "nasswetter music group" from Munich/ Germany. The "nasswetter music group" is a… Continue

WDN Shop is online now! :-)

Hey mates,

The WDN Shop is online now. You can buy t-shirts and jackets with different designs - e.g. the WDN logo or the Aboriginal flag!

Here's the link: http://didgeridoo.ning.com/page/wdn-shop

In June we'll add women's t-shirts and other items! But all men's t-shirts are online now!

We'll get a little percentage of the price that we want to use to extend the WDN!

Hope that some of you will buy… Continue

WDN T-SHIRT SHOP

>>> WDN T-SHIRT SHOP /b>

At the moment I'm creating two shops for WDN - one for Europe and some other countries (currency: EUR) and one for the USA and other countries (currency: USD). As European you can also buy items from the American shop, but the shipping costs (and maybe the duty) is expensive. I try to offer similar items in the both shops.

The t-shirts (later there may also be jackets, pins, pullovers and so on ..) are produced by… Continue

New: WDN in your language / Listen to the content of the pages on WDN

Hi mates,

there are two new functions on WDN:

Translate each WDN page into your language!

Now, on the top of the page (on the "Ning bar") you can see different flags. By clicking on one of these flags the current page will be translated in this language!

At the moment you can translate the pages into French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, Greek, Simple Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and Hindi. The… Continue

Hi Philipp, Are we  going to get a video of your Friday night gig? Glad you are back safely from your travels. Thanks for creating this site.....it has given me a huge amount of interest whilst being stuck indoors looking after an elderly parent. I have made a huge amount of progress on the didge in the last year from following links on this site. Hope to see more of your music etc on this site if you are not too busy studying.....Cheers!

Oh, noch was vergessen.
